Back to where she's from

Some years ago, oh, a long time ago, a young girl decided it was time.
You see, she lived in a remote, beautiful corner of the forest, in a tall, tall tower, with only her books and stories and music to keep her company. It wasn't because a witch had kidnapped her, dear me, no. She was much too ordinary for that.
No, she kept to herself out of choice. She knew people could be mean, and hurtful as well as good and kind. But mostly they were selfish (whether it was consciously or unconsciously) . And honestly, she wasn't interested in knowing them anyways.
Then, something changed. She felt it was time to give people a chance.
and, she found that she liked them a lot. In fact, she loved the excitement of large crowds, and the infectious disease called laughter. She learnt to smile and for a while she was happy.
She would often change where she lived after that, and she would meet new people and make new friends.
But, without her realization, a new shadow began creeping into her heart. It was made of anger, hate, selfishness, spite, jealousy and....lonliness. She had known anger, hate, selfishness, spite and jealousy would come knocking on her door one day or another, as she was human, and she despised them. But she had not expected to feel lonely or left out, even after she was surrounded by so many people. After a while she decided she couldn't handle it any more.
If caring meant that she would get angry, that she would hate and feel selfish, she decided she didn't want it.
She decided to return to her books and her music.
So, now she walks the familiar path down to her tower, through the ivy covering the large archway, behind the cool, sparkling waterfall. She hopes that no one will stop her, because it will just make it that much harder for her not to care.

As the rain falls.

A young girl of fifteen sat outside on the terrace of her home. With headphones in her ears, and her attention focused on a book in her hands, she hadn't noticed the sky becoming overcast, until a large droplet fell on her book. "'the hell?" she cussed under her breath. She knew if she didn't hurry, she would miss the last rainfall she could witness this summer. She ran inside, and kept the book away, marking the page with a feather. With a sense of urgency, she dashed back outside and balanced herself on the ledge of the terrace once more. She rested her head against the wall of the house, and put the hood of her jacket up, just as the rain increased from a drizzle to a steadier pitter-patter. She felt each drop as it seeped through her jacket, and into her skin and if anyone had seen her then, they wouldn't have noticed her tears.
Gradually, the rain slowed and finally stopped altogether. She slowly opened her eyes, and wiped away the moisture and the tears. Leaning against the railings of the terrace, she looked out at the world below. Everything looked fresh and green.
The rain had washed away a lot of things and her pain had been washed away along with them. A last drop trickeled down her face as she looked at the effect of the rain. She watched the sun break out of the clouds and light up the scene, the way her face finally broke into a small smile

A while later, she wandered down, into the forest close to her home. Everything smelled wet and earthy, and each color looked brighter in the fading green light. She reached the edge of the cliffside on which the forest reasted, and sat down at the foot of an old deodar. A thin mist lay over the forest that spanned the vast expanse below. As she watched the sun set, she felt someone come up behind her and sit down nex to her, facing away from the cliff's edge. She turnedc to look at the face of her best friend, someone she  had only been able to meet once or twice a summer since she had left the town. Silently, he took her hand and intertwined their fingers, and she rested her head on his shoulder. Just like that, the summer came to a close, with them watching the sunset ferom that cliff. It was the last memory she would have of him, watching the last sunset of his last summer with him.

She left the town again that night. As she took her seat in the aeroplane, she thought of that last moment. She had been where she truly belonged then, where her heart belonged.

Everyone has their own view of life, I guess. It's your choice to see the end of the summer as the end of everything good, everything you love, or as the beginning of something new. You choose whether to see the grey clods and the rain as a mark of sadness or as a part of life that helps make everyhting more beautiful and washes away the pain of something that is lost.
It also depends on you, whether you believe your best friend when he says that he will be your gaurdian angel after his death.
